Well, that’s it, we have spent our first month of competition, trying to rank our page as high as possible on the Busby SEO Challenge sentence.

It is a third of the competition, and we might consider that most of the participants are known. Maybe a few webmasters will hear about the Busby thing, but it is doubtful a lot of them will decide to enter.

Clearly, we have a lot of very good competitors, and things are getting tough for us… as well as the others on the first page.

A little review of the challenge first month

Busby competitors are very different

There are more than 300 pages registered. As some people can register several pages, that does not mean we are so many, but that’s already a competitive query, isn’t it ?
Participants have various background and experience level. We are not the only French ones to compete, far from it, and there is at least another big French team.
Some of us have a lot of experience, even professional, in the world of SEO, some of us are quite new to the field, students or just people who enjoy the web and want to have fun.

I know that while beginning an article with a sentence so polemical, that I be going to obtain what I wish.
However, I am certain that every webmaster having a little of humor and a point of intelligence will be that it is necessary to attract the visitor, to shock a little, so that he reads the article.

It has been one month since Busby SEO Challenge began and the challenge is always opened.

Since the beginning, a French team constituted for the competition, they will sharing and enjoy itself. But the competition is rough and I think that the help of everything French webmasters is necessary.

I sometimes wonder whether a single person could win such a challenge as the Busby competition.
Ranking high in SERPs on a word, or a three words combination like Busby SEO challenge depends on a lot of factors.

What is the weight of in-page optimization in the overall SEO for Busby ?

Good question. Would any participant risk to loose this contest by not trying to bring in as many external links ?
I usually rank my customer’s websites mainly through in-page optimization, and a little bit linking, as I consider it a safer long-term strategy. But it is exactly that : a long-term strategy, that usually bring fruits on a three-six months period.

What’s the link between Busby and an aeroplane ?
Well, in 1958, in an aeroplane crash, the Manchester United football team died in a crash.

You might notice I speak of an aeroplane, because this is the english word, and not of an airplane. An american would have spoken of an airplane.
Hence, we can assume that the Wikipedia article about the Busby babes death was written by an english.

They’d died in an airplane crash.

As they were english, it was an aeroplane. And that impacts the SERPs (Search Engine Result Page, what we run after when we do SEO) results. When airplane is the commonly used word around the world, Bubsy airplane does not yield so significant results as Busby aeroplane query on Google.

Which is again, an indication of the importance of the context to rank well, and another challenge for SEO experts.
